Speaking

• If you typically prepare for a speech one week in advance try increasing the time and see how it affects your speech.

• Why continue after 10 speeches? The advanced manuals are more flexible and are "advanced" in name only. They have less structure than speeches 1-10 and allow more creativity. Choose one that challenges your speaking style.

• Write an Introduction for yourself. Just one. Then send it to the TM each time when you are to speak thus removing their burden of the TM having to write one. You can always change it later. Approach the lectern AFTER they deliver it not during to feel the full effect.

• Glancing ahead at all the speeches helps. You will get ideas for them when you are doing something else.

• Doing better at Table Topics will make regular speeches easier. Go here for Table Topics Tips.

Style:

• A written comment to a speaker after a speech carries more weight, particularly if critical, if it also carries your name.

• Dress differently and it might make your speech delivery different.

• After the meeting each week use your TM skills to talk to someone new and improve "your cocktail party skills."

• Develop your own style when Toastmaster of the week.

Nuts and Bolts:

• Google Groups & Email: It is not necessary to use Google Groups for sending email. You can create your own email list in your email program. Just keep it updated as members come and go. There are many advantages to this. For receiving email continue to use Google groups. Not receiving email: make sure an officer has added you, check your spam box in case email is landing there.

• Pinball effect. Want to get more out of Toastmasters? Try impacting the group in the tiniest way by doing something FOR the group. This will add to your experience and positive energy will rebound.
